If in 1980 ... 1990 the world audio market was gradually taken over by compact discs, then the optical format "LaserDisc" was widely spread among video information carriers during this period. For several years in a row, these two technologies were in no way compatible with each other, until in the late 1980s leading electronics manufacturers mastered the production of combo drives that could play both LD video and music CDs. One of these devices - audio / video players "Philips CDV-495/496" - were assembled under license at the Ural EMZ. Belgian specialists built several separate workshops, installed the appropriate equipment and started the production of VKD. The release of the devices continued until 1996.
