When receiving telegraph signs, the electric motor pulled the paper tape to the left of the apparatus, and the electromagnet pressed against the paper tape and the ballpoint pen left a short (dot) or long (dash) mark on the tape. It was necessary to read the message immediately, during the reception or after. The reverse transmission was carried out with a key, and the second receiving apparatus repeated everything described above. Telegraphs had a separate power switch or a telegraph key was used for this. There was a lever for changing the speed of the tape feed.
