Subscriber loudspeaker `` SMZ '' (Saratov).

Subscriber loudspeakers.DomesticSince 1945, the subscriber loudspeaker "SMZ" (Saratov) 05-GD-1 has been producing the Saratov Machine-Building Plant (Saratov Electric Power Plant. SEPO). Below is information about the subscriber loudspeaker provided by Sergey Nenashev (VINT) from Moscow. The electrodynamic loudspeaker "SMZ 0.5-GD-1" was developed in 1940 for production at the Saratov machine-building plant of the USSR People's Commissariat of Aviation Industry, which was planned to be launched at the end of 1941. The war interfered, so it began to be produced only from 1945 to 1951, when SMZ was focused on the production of Saratov refrigerators. AG had a bulky plywood case (320x330x150 mm) in khaki color, but it was distinguished by the novelty of the element base. The loudspeaker had a cast case (basket), a collapsible design (which had no analogues in the USSR) with a frequency range of 150 ... 5000 Hz. In the AG, a smooth volume control was installed, a transformer with a special design with the ability to connect to a broadcasting network with a voltage of 15 or 30 volts, which was easy to do with the help of screw terminals. Due to their application, the assembly of the AG was carried out practically without soldering. The volume control knob was located on the front panel of the AG and was marked by the manufacturer "SMZ". The AG did not have an official name "Saratov", therefore, among the population and collectors, two names "SMZ" or "Saratov" were assigned to it. The quality of the element base and sounding of the AG, at that time, had no equal in the USSR.
